Lake Illawarra Detectives have established Strike Force Miriki to investigate an armed robbery in the state’s south.

About 6.45am today (Wednesday 22 May 2013), three people entered a licensed premise in Wentworth Street, Port Kembla.

Police have been told one of the group was armed with an axe.

They allegedly threatened staff before fleeing with an amount of cash.

The trio was last seen running on Jubilee Street toward Port Kembla Lane.

No one was injured during the incident.

Officers attended and established a crime scene which was examined by forensic specialists.

Detectives established Strike Force Miriki to investigate the robbery and are appealing to the community for information about the incident to come forward.
