Police are investigating an incident at a Hotel in Torrensville where a man stole money from a cash register and threatened to harm staff.

At about 10.30pm, the suspect was at the Hotel Royal on Henley Beach Road when he leaned over the counter and stole money from the cash register before running off.

Two staff members chased the suspect to a laneway behind the hotel and confronted him demanding the money back.

The suspect handed back most of the money but then threw a liquid believed to be methylated spirits on the pair and threatened to set them alight.

The suspect then ran off and thankfully the victims were not injured.

The suspect is described as a man of being Caucasian appearance, approximately 185cm tall, medium to solid build and clean shaven.

He was wearing a black baseball cap, a black hooded jumper and grey tracksuit pants.
