A Morningside convenience store was robbed by a man armed with a machete earlier this morning.

Initial information suggests the armed man broke into the Thynne Road store around 4.20am and waited for staff to arrive. Around 5.15am, upon arrival of a 20-year-old store attendant the offender demanded cash and goods.

The man fled the store with money and cigarettes.

The male store attendant was not physically injured during the incident.

The man is described as being Caucasian in appearance, 180cm tall and with a slim build. He was wearing dark blue coloured jeans, a grey/blue coloured hooded jumper and he had black cloth covering his face.

Police investigations are continuing.
