Police have charged a man with reckless wounding after another man was allegedly struck with a schooner glass in the face, at a hotel near Balranald overnight.

About 9.45pm on Friday 13 September, police have been told a verbal argument developed between a 19-year-old Balranald man and a 27-year-old Hay man at a hotel on Ivanhoe Road at Homebush.

The altercation deteriorated into a brawl and the younger man was struck to the face with a schooner glass.

The injured man was taken to Balranald Hospital and received 20 sutures to a laceration across his left eye.

Police from Deniliquin Local Area Command attended the hospital firstly and then the hotel.

A short time later the older man was arrested at a nearby caravan park and conveyed to Balranald Police Station.

He was charged with reckless wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The Hay man was granted bail and will appear at Balranald Local Court on 9 October 2013.
