Police are appealing for witnesses to an attempted armed robbery in Mortdale yesterday morning.

About 2.50am (Wednesday 6 November 2013), a 24-year-old man was waiting to be picked up outside a hotel on Pitt Street, Mortdale, and he was approached by a man who tackled him to the ground.

The man has allegedly held a firearm against the 24-year-olds stomach and demanded cash.

The 24-year-old struggled and has managed to break free.

The man has run from the location.

The 24-year-old did not sustain any injuries as a result of the attempt robbery, and has contacted police.

Officers from St George Local Area Command and forensic specialists have attended and commenced an investigation.

The 24-year-old was unable to provide a description of the man.
