A man will face court today after he allegedly tried to rob a convenience store.

About 10.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 4 February 2014), a man entered convenience store on the Princes Highway, Carlton, and threatened the store employee with a blood-filled syringe.

The employee pushed the offender away and ran from the store.

The offender then chased the man for a short time, before fleeing the scene.

Local police and police attached to the Dog Unit were alerted to the incident and a patrol of the area was conducted

A 32-year-old man was arrested a short distance away.

He was taken to Kogarah Police Station and charged with attempt robbery while armed and aggravated break and enter and steal.

He was refused bail and will appear in Kogarah Local Court today (Wednesday 5 February 2014).

The employee did not suffer any injuries during the incident.
