Police have released CCTV after a man was struck in the head with a machete during the robbery of a newsagency in Sydney’s south-west on Saturday.
About 6.40am (15 February 2014), two men entered the newsagency on Waldron Road, Chester Hill, armed with a machete and a meat cleaver.
The men threatened the 55-year-old male shopkeeper and demanded money.
The shopkeeper armed himself with a wooden chair and one of the men began swinging the machete at him, which struck the 55-year-old once in the head.
The men then ran from the store, taking the till with them.
They were last seen getting into a white/cream coloured utility in Frost Lane.
Police from Bankstown Local Area Command attended a short time later, establishing a crime scene that was examined by specialist forensic officers.
The injured man was treated by Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Bankstown Hospital for treatment of a cut to his forehead.
Investigators have released CCTV of two men they believe may be able to assist with inquiries into this incident.
The first man depicted is of Asian appearance, 30-35 years old, about 170cm tall, with a thin build. He is shown wearing a grey hooded jumper, black pants and dark-coloured balaclava.
The second man depicted is of Asian appearance, 30-35 years old, about 165cm tall, with a medium build. He is shown wearing a blue cap and blue scarf around his face, a white shirt underneath a black jacket with white trim and black pants.
