The quick thinking of a console operator has led to the arrest of a man after he tried to rob a Port Adelaide service station overnight. Just before 3am, the man entered the Liberty Service Station on Grand Junction Road and approached the counter brandishing a knife demanding money. The quick thinking console operator activated the hold up screens to protect himself from the suspect, then locked the doors to prevent the robber from leaving and phoned police. The male suspect attempted to smash his way out using a fire extinguisher without success, with police patrols arriving a short time later arresting the man. An 18-year-old man of no fixed placed was arrested and charged with attempt aggravated robbery of the service station, he has been refused police bail to appear Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
