Police are appealing for information after an attempted armed robbery at a shop in Chipping Norton last night.

About 7.20pm (Friday 16 May 2014), the owner, of a newsagency on Governor Macquarie Drive was closing up when a man entered the store.

The man threatened the 57-year-old owner with a shortened rifle and demanded cash. The owner yelled at the man and attempted to stop him getting to the register.

The man hit the owner with the butt of the firearm, before he ran from the shop empty handed.

The offender returned and attempted to enter the shop again, but was unable to get in, so ran away.

Police were contacted and Liverpool Local Area Command and forensic specialist officers attended and seized several items.

The 57-year-old was taken to hospital for a cut to his forehead and a hand injury.

The man was described as Mediterranean/Middle Eastern, aged in 30’s, he was wearing dark tracksuit pants and a light grey hooded sweatshirt.
