Police have charged a man following an attempted armed robbery in Walgett at the weekend.

A man entered a club on Fox Street club about 1.50pm on Sunday 7 September 2014.

It’s alleged the man demanded cash from staff, stating he had two knives.

Staff contacted police, who arrived quickly and arrested the 22-year-old man.

During a search of the man, police seized a box cutter and a syringe.

Officers also located two knives behind a poker machine; these have been seized for forensic analysis.

Police took the man to Walgett Police Station, where he was charged with attempted armed robbery, demand property with menaces, and custody of a knife in a public place.

The man appeared in Walgett Local Court yesterday (Monday 8 September 2014), where he was refused bail to face the same court on 23 September 2014.
