Gold Coast Detectives are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a convenience store at Southport overnight.

Around 9.20pm a man entered the Scarborough Street business armed with a knife and made demands for money from the male store employee.

The store employee picked up a bin near the counter and moved towards the offender forcing him backwards out of the store. The offender fled empty handed.

The offender is described as Caucasian and was wearing a black hoodie top, jeans and had a light coloured bandanna around the lower part of his face.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

Investigations are continuing.
