Police are appealing for information after an armed robbery at a convenience store in Kogarah overnight.

About 9.15pm (Thursday 4 June 2015), husband and wife store owners were talking behind the counter of their convenience store in Queen Victoria Street when a man entered, armed with an axe.

The man hit the counter several times, demanding cash from the couple. When he tried to climb the counter they ran from the shop through a rear door.

The man was seen running in nearby Robertson Park a short time later after stealing cash from the till.

Police attended and inquiries into the armed robbery are continuing.

No one was injured.

The man has been described to police as 165cm tall with a medium build. He was wearing a cream coloured hoodie, with the hood pulled over his head, and a dark cloth covering his mouth and nose.
