Police investigating the attempted armed robbery of a Collingwood Park convenience store yesterday afternoon have charged two men.

Police will allege that around 4.50pm a man entered the Collingwood Drive business armed with a knife and made demands for cash from a male employee.

The man left the store empty handed after a woman inside the store screamed. He fled the scene in a vehicle which had earlier been stolen from Bellbird Park.

At approximately 5.20pm the vehicle was spotted by police in the car park of a shopping centre on Redbank Plains Road.  Police attempted to intercept the vehicle but it failed to stop.

The vehicle continued on for a short distance before coming to a halt after colliding with two vehicles on Redbank Plains Road.

Three male teenagers fled from the vehicle with two apprehended by police a short time later.

A 53-year-old Redbank Plains woman, the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the crash, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

An 18-year-old Bellbird Park man has been charged with one count each of attempted armed robbery, assault occasioning bodily harm, common assault, threatening violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop and unlicensed driving.

An 18-year-old Ellen Grove man has been charged with one count of each of attempted robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Both men have been remanded in police custody overnight and are due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court this morning.

Police investigations are continuing.
