A man has been charged over alleged armed robbery offences in the Illawarra at the weekend.

About 7.15pm on Sunday (5 July 2015), a man entered a convenience store on Crown Street, Wollongong and allegedly threatened the male attendant with a knife, demanding cash.

The attendant handed over cash and the man ran from the scene.

Just before 9pm, a man entered a restaurant on Crown Street and allegedly threatened a female employee with a knife and demanded cash.

The male restaurant owner confronted the man, who fled from the location empty handed.

Police from Wollongong Local Area Command were contacted in relation to both incidents and commenced investigations.

Following inquiries, officers arrested a 27-year-old man at a home on Parkside Avenue, Wollongong about 4.40pm yesterday (Tuesday 7 July 2015).

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with armed robbery and demand money with menaces.

 

He has been refused bail to appear at Port Kembla Local Court today (Wednesday 8 July 2015).
