Police are on the trail of burglars who left a unique calling card following a failed ram raid attempt in Burwood this morning.

Officers were called to a service station on Highbury Road about 5am after the store’s alarm was activated.

Police arrived to find the front window smashed and a trail of glass behind.

A nearby phone booth was also knocked over as the thieves made their getaway.

It’s believed the burglars fled empty-handed.

About five minutes later, fire-fighters were called to a ute on fire outside Jordanville Station in Mt Waverley.

The fire was deemed to be suspicious and police were called.

When police arrived, they found chocolate bars strewn over the ute’s bull bar.

Officers managed to avoid eating the evidence.

The two incidents are believed to be linked.

Detectives from the Monash Crime Investigation Unit are investigating and are appealing for anyone who might have seen any suspicious activity in the area to come forward.

Investigators particularly wish to speak to anyone who saw the suspect vehicle – a silver 2014 Triton duel cab ute – around the time of the incident.
