A man has been arrested after a robbery at a Smithfield deli this morning.
About 10am on Friday 7 August, a man armed with a knife threatened staff at the deli on Anderson Walk, Smithfield. He made off with an amount of cash and was last seen heading west towards the train station.
No one was injured during the robbery.
Police patrols quickly surrounded the area and, a short time later, arrested a suspect and recovered the cash.
The 26-year-old Elizabeth East man was charged with aggravated robbery. He was refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court at the earliest opportunity, which is likely to be on Monday.
