Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of a convenience store at Matraville overnight.

A man entered the store on Wassell Street about 7.20pm yesterday (Tuesday 10 November 2015), and confronted the attendant, a 61-year-old woman.

The man, who was armed with a screwdriver, demanded money before fleeing empty handed.

He was last seen running south along Wassell Street.

Police were alerted and officers from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command and the Dog Squad attended the scene.

Officers searched for the man but were unable to locate him.

A crime scene was established and police are appealing for public assistance to identify and locate the man involved.

He is described as being approximately 180 to 190cm tall, with a large build.

He was last seen wearing a red ‘Adidas’ hooded jumper with white writing on the front, blue track pants with white vertical stripes and a bright yellow face covering which only left his eyes exposed.
