A new toolkit for businesses that is focused on armed robbery prevention was today released by the South Australia Police (SAPOL).

The toolkit provides relevant information to reduce the risk of aggravated robberies and improve the safety of staff and customers.

Produced by the SAPOL crime prevention section, the toolkit includes height stickers designed to be installed in a place that helps staff estimate an offender’s height, ‘no cash’ stickers for business use, key crime prevention tips and details of ‘Code A’.

‘Code A’ stands for Calm; Obey; Description; Evidence and Alarm.

In addition to the production of the toolkit, police have an armed robbery prevention booklet available as a PDF on the SA Police website.

Launching the toolkit today, Assistant Commissioner Philip Newitt (pictured), said the toolkit contained a wide range of useful information for businesses.

He also noted that the number of robberies had fallen over the last five years in South Australia.

The newly released South Australia Police Annual Report 2014-15 (available online at: https://www.police.sa.gov.au/about-us/crime-statistics-map) shows that Robbery and Related Offences decreased by 13.8 per cent (112 offences),  and Aggravated Robbery Offences decreasing by 12.7 per cent (73 offences).

Staff training is also available from police in armed robbery prevention, with SAPOL’s key message for staff in a such a situation to advise them to ‘stay calm, obey and don’t be a hero’.

Business owners can contact their local police crime prevention section to book a presentation.
