Police are appealing for public assistance following an armed robbery in Heatley overnight.

Initial investigations suggest at around 11:30pm two men approached a man and a woman at a sporting complex in Heatley Park, demanding their car keys.

One of the men, armed with what appeared to be a handgun, then struck the man in the head.

The other man grabbed the woman’s handbag before the men fled the scene on foot toward Lindeman Avenue.

The 41-year-old man was treated at the scene for a laceration to his temple.

Police attended and conducted patrols of the area but were unable to locate the two men.

One man is described as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance, aged in his early 20s, approximately 183cm tall, of a medium build and was last seen wearing a black shirt and a baseball cap.

The second man is described as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance, approximately 173cm tall and was last seen wearing a white hoody.

Investigations are continuing.
