Police are investigating following an armed robbery in the Monaro Region early this morning.

Just after 1am (Saturday 30 April 2016), two men entered a service station on Yass Road, Queanbeyan, and threatened staff with a machete and metal pole, demanding cash.

One of the men jumped the counter and grabbed cash and cigarettes, before entering the office and taking two mobile phones.

Both men then fled the store and were last seen running south on Yass Road.

During this incident, one of the employees – a 31-year-old man – was struck over the head with the machete. No one was seriously injured.

Police from Monaro Local Area Command attended a short time later and despite an extensive search of the area, the men were not located.

A crime scene was established at the location and an investigation was launched.

Detectives are appealing for public assistance as they attempt to identify the men involved.

The first man is described as being of Pacific Islander appearance, about 170cm tall, with a slim build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black balaclava, a black jumper with a grey hood, black tracksuit pants, white shoes, and white knitted gloves.

The second man was wearing a bandana over his face and a grey beanie with a read pattern, a black jumper, grey pants, dark shoes, and dark gloves.
