Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery in Queanbeyan this afternoon.

About 1.40pm today (Tuesday 7 June 2016), emergency services were called to a bank on Monaro Street, following reports of a robbery.

Initial investigations suggest a man wearing dark clothing and with his face covered, entered the bank and allegedly threatened staff with a shortened firearm, before fleeing empty handed.

He was last seen driving away in a silver sedan, not further described.

No one was injured during the incident.

Officers from Monaro Local Area Command conducted a search of the area, however, the man was not located.

A crime scene was established and investigations are continuing.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
