A man has been injured after an alleged assault in Tamworth in the state’s north.

About 8.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 6 July), a 25-year-old man was at a licensed premise in Peel Street, Tamworth.

A verbal altercation occurred between him and a 28-year-old man. Both men then went outside of the hotel where the altercation escalated.

Police will allege the 28-year-old man assaulted the 25-year-old.

The 25-year-old man later attended Tamworth Hospital with facial injuries.

Tamworth Police attended the licensed premise and arrested the 28-year-old man.

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, carrying a cutting weapon and possession of a prohibited drug.

He was bail refused to appear in Tamworth Local Court today.
