Police have charged a man this morning following the attempted armed robbery of a Thorneside convenience store on Saturday, July 23.

It will be alleged that around 6.20pm, a man entered the Thorneside Road business with a pillowcase over his head and threatened the female staff member with a large knife.

The staff member told the alleged offender that she did not understand him, so he removed the pillow case in order to talk to her.

The woman still not understand him and he fled the business on foot without stealing any property.

The matter was reported to police and the identity of the alleged offender was established after detectives viewed closed circuit television camera footage of the incident.

A 35-year-old Goodna man has been charged with one count of attempted armed robbery and is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court today.
