Police have arrested a man and woman this morning wanted over a robbery at the Grand Junction Tavern on Monday.

About 1.30am police were conducting patrols around Smithfield when they spotted a Holden sedan filling up at a petrol station on Main North Road. Checks on the car’s registration revealed that the car was wanted by police over the robbery at Pennington. (see link to previous release)

Patrols approached the car and attempted to arrest the man who allegedly resisted and was pulled from the driver’s seat of the car. While patrols struggled with the man, a woman has jumped into the driver’s seat and attempted to drive off.

The man broke free from police and ran down Main North Road but was quickly apprehended by patrols again.

Police will allege that during the arrest of the man, the woman has driven from the service station and allegedly attempted to run the patrol officers down on several occasions.

The car became wedged on the nature strip and the man and woman were subsequently arrested.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

A 25-year-old woman from Parafield Gardens and a 23-year-old Salisbury East man have been charged with aggravated robbery and numerous firearms offences.

The woman has been further charged with two counts of attempted murder.

They have both been refused bail and are expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.
