Police have charged a man following an armed robbery at a bank in the state’s north earlier this month.

Just after 3pm on Wednesday 11 January 2017, a man entered a bank on River Street, Ballina, and demanded money from the teller.

Police have been told the man was armed with a blood filled syringe.

The teller handed over cash and the man fled. He was last seen on River Street.

Officers from Richmond Local Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

No one was injured during the incident.

Today (Wednesday 24 January 2016), detectives from Richmond Local Area Command travelled to Western Australia to speak to a 29-year-old man who had been detained for unrelated matters.

Detectives will apply for the extradition of the man from Western Australia in relation to the armed robbery of a Ballina bank on Wednesday 11 January 2017.
