Detectives have charged a man in relation to an armed robbery incident at an Aitkenvale business this afternoon.
It is alleged about 12.30pm, the man entered the store on Ross River Road with a machete and assaulted a female store attendant.
It is further alleged the man took a quantity of cash from the till prior to fleeing the scene on foot towards Anne Street.
As a result of subsequent investigations, detectives have charged a 23-year-old Townsville man with one count each of enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence, enter premises and commit indictable offence, robbery whilst armed, possession of a dangerous drug and fail to take reasonable care in respect of syringe.
The store attendant received bruising to her face and left hand, and was transported to the Townsville General Hospital for treatment.
The man is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on March 27.
