Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an armed robbery in Riverwood yesterday.

About 6.45pm (Thursday 22 June 2017), an employee of a small supermarket on Belmore Road was alone while re-stocking the shelves.

A man entered the store and produced a set of long-bladed garden shears as he approached the 36-year-old female employee.

He directed the woman to the cash registers and demanded money from both tills.

The woman complied and handed the man an amount of cash before he ran from the store.

Police were called and a crime scene was established by officers from St George Local Area Command.

The man has been described as Pacific Islander/Maori in appearance, about 170cm tall with an average build and wearing a long sleeve ‘high-visibility’ shirt. He had dark blue pants that were covered in mud, and he was barefoot. At the time of the robbery he had his face covered with a jumper.
