Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery in Mayfield overnight.

Just before 3am (Thursday 30 November 2017), police were called to a service station on Maitland Road, Mayfield, after reports a man was trying to gain entry to the store.

Police have been told a man approached the locked glass doors and signalled the service attendant to open the doors.

When the attendant didn’t comply, the unknown man, armed with a knife began to kick the glass doors.

The door didn’t break and entry was not gained.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Local Area Command attended and a crime scene was established.

As investigations continue, police would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall with blonde hair. He was wearing a black tracksuit at the time of the incident.
