Police are investigating the armed robbery of a supermarket in Sydney CBD overnight.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command received reports that a man and woman entered a supermarket on Murray Street at Pyrmont about 3.20am (Saturday 9 June 2018).

Police have been told the man approached the attendant and produced a firearm, before demanding cash.

The pair left when they failed to open the register.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist police.

Investigations are underway and police are urging anyone with information that may assist to come forward.
