wo men have been charged after residents at a motel reported suspicious and threatening behaviour on the state’s Far North Coast.

About 8:30pm on Sunday 31 March 2019, emergency services were called to a motel on Bangalow Road, Byron Bay, after reports two men were threatening residents with a firearm.

When police arrived the two men fled on foot.

After a short foot pursuit, a 33-year-old man was arrested and taken to Byron Bay Police Station.


Following inquiries, a green Holden Commodore station wagon with Queensland registration was found close to the hotel with police finding a number of stolen items and a cigarette slighter shaped like a firearm inside.

The Queensland man was charged with goods suspected stolen in/on premises, receive etc property stolen outside NSW (x2), drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (x2) and affray.

He appeared in Tweed Heads Local court yesterday (Monday 1 April 2019) where bail was refused to reappear in the same court Monday 13 May 2019.

A short time later a 23-year-old man from Queensland was arrested in Jonson Street, Byron Bay and was taken to Byron Bay Police Station where he was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (x2), and possess prohibited drug (x2).

The 23 year old man appeared in Tweed Heads Local court yesterday (Monday 1 April 2019) where bail was refused to reappear in the same court Monday 13 May 2019.

Police will allege in court the men used the car in a number of fail to pay incidents in Queensland and NSW.
