Police are appealing for witnesses following a bag snatch on the state’s mid-north coast at the weekend.

About 8pm Sunday (24 July 2011), a 78-year old woman was walking along Park Street, Port Macquarie, with her husband.

A man approached them and snatched her handbag from her shoulder, causing her to fall to the ground and hit her head.

Police attended the scene and conducted an extensive search, but were unable to locate the man.

The victim was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital and treated for head and back injuries.

Police from Mid North Coast Local Area Command are appealing for public assistance to locate a man who may be able to assist them with inquiries.

He is described as being in his late teens, between 173cm and 183cm tall, and being of slim build. At the time, he was wearing a dark-coloured hooded jacket and dark pants.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or know the identity of the man is urged to contact Port Macquarie Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
