Police are appealing for information after the violent attempted robbery of an elderly woman at Liverpool this morning.
About 9am (Thursday 6 October 2011), a 77-year-old woman walked to her local shop on Boundary Road to submit her lottery tickets.
After leaving the store the woman was followed by a man onto Alderson Avenue where he stopped and asked her for directions.
The woman was then attacked by the man who grabbed at her handbag which was hanging over her shoulder.
During the incident the woman was shoved in the back and fell face first onto the concrete path sustaining facial injuries.
The man then took her handbag before throwing it onto the ground and running from the scene empty handed.
Police and paramedics were called to the scene and the woman was taken to Liverpool Hospital where she received treatment for a fractured arm and lacerations to her face and mouth.
Detectives from Liverpool Local Area Command are investigating the robbery and are looking for a man who is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his mid 20s, 170cm tall with a slim build and thin face.
He was wearing a cap, a dark shirt with a pattern on the front and dark-coloured pants.
