Police are investigating a spate of armed and attempted armed robberies upon petrol stations in Sydney’s west overnight.
About 11pm, Wednesday 25 April 2012, two men armed with machetes entered the petrol station on Popondetta Road, Emerton.
Police have been told the men, who had their faces covered, ran from the store before any threats were made. No property was stolen during the incident.
Five minutes later, two men wearing a balaclava and a face-mask, entered a petrol station on Luxford Road, Lethbridge Park.
One of the men jumped the counter and threatened a male employee with a knife while the other man remained by the front door.
The armed man was handed cash and cigarettes before demanding access to the safe which was unsuccessful.
Both men ran from the store while the shopkeeper called Triple Zero (000) with police arriving on scene a minute later. Police and the Dog Unit conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the men.
About 12:05am today (Thursday 26 April 2012), two men attended the petrol station on Forrester Road, North St Marys.
Police have been told one of the men knocked on the locked door of the shop and demanded access into the premises.
The man, who was armed with a knife and wearing a face-mask, was refused entry into the store and the shopkeeper called police.
Police arrived on scene within two minutes, however, both men fled empty-handed prior to their arrival.
Half an hour later (12:35am), two men, who had their faces covered and were armed with machetes, walked into the petrol station on the Great Western Highway, Minchinbury.
One of the men approached the counter and threatened a staff member before being handed cash from the register. The other man threatened another employee and stole his wallet.
Both men ran out of the store through the car park towards Rupertswood Road before police were called.
Police from Mount Druitt , St Marys and the Metropolitan Robbery Unit are investigating the robberies and attempting to establish whether they are any links between the four incidents.
