Detectives are conducting inquiries after two robbers discharged a firearm during a hold-up at a Hunter Valley pub this evening.

Police from Central Hunter Local Area Command attended the hotel on Aberdare Road, Cessnock, about 6.30pm today (Tuesday 1 May 2012), following reports of the armed robbery.

Officers have been told two men threatened staff and patrons with a rifle before firing a single shot.

The pair, whose faces were covered, then stole a sum of cash before running from the hotel.

A crime scene has been secured and is being examined by forensics officers.

No one was injured in the incident.

Local detectives are now appealing for public assistance as they try to identify and locate the offenders.
