Police are searching for two bandits who smashed a store window and stole several trays of jewellery before taking off on a trail bike earlier this week.
The incident happened at a jewellery store in Station Street, Bayswater shortly before 11am on Monday 28 May.
Police have been told that two people riding a stolen trail bike pulled up at the front of the shop and used a hatchet hammer to smash the front window.
The pillion passenger then reached into the display area and removed several trays of assorted jewellery before getting back on the bike where they both sped off.
The pair were sighted by witnesses on Scoresby Road and later in the vicinity of Lewis Road, Knoxfield.
Both men were wearing motorcycle apparel and helmets at the time of the burglary.
The jewellery consisted of necklaces and bracelets and is believed to be of substantial value.
The red Honda CRF 450 trail bike used by the burglars was stolen from a private residence in Healesville on the 12 May, 2011.
Police recovered the bike yesterday, just after midday in the vicinity of Boronia Road and Scoresby Road, Boronia.
