Three people will face court after an armed robbery at a North Coast credit union yesterday (Monday 4 June 2012).
Just before 10am yesterday, two people, allegedly armed with a firearm and tyre lever, entered the credit union on Bowra Street, Urunga, and demanded cash.
They left the credit union with an amount of cash, leaving the scene in a Toyota Corolla wagon.
Just after 11.15am, police stopped a Toyota Corolla on the Pacific Highway at Macksville, arresting two men and a woman. An amount of cash was seized by police.
Inquiries by police revealed possible links with two other robberies under investigation by Strike Force Mehi:
– A fast food outlet at Coffs Harbour South on Saturday 14 May 2012; and – A service station at Boambee on Monday 16 May 2012.
Strike Force Mehi comprises detectives from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad and Coffs/Clarence and Mid North Coast Local Area Commands, and is investigating numerous robberies on the Mid North and North Coast of NSW in recent months.
The two men, aged 29 and 37, were each charged with three counts of robbery while armed with an offensive weapon, relating to the robberies at Urunga, Coffs Harbour South and Boambee, with the older man also charged with an outstanding warrant.
The 25-year-old woman was charged with one count of robbery while armed with an offensive weapon.
They were each refused bail to face Kempsey Local Court today.
