Police in the state’s south are searching for a man after a 58-year-old woman was hit with a golf club and robbed at a shopping centre in Wagga Wagga.

About 9.40pm yesterday (Saturday 9 June 2012), the woman withdrew cash from an ATM at the Bourke Street shopping centre.

After placing the money in her purse, the woman started to walk to her vehicle in the shopping centre’s car park.

On the way to her car, the woman was approached by a man armed with a golf club, who demanded she hand over cash.

When the 58-year-old refused to comply with the man’s demands, he hit her over the head and back with the club. Fearing the attack would continue, the woman handed over her purse to the man, who then fled the scene on foot.

Police were contacted and a canvass of the area led to officers finding the golf club, however the man was not located.

The man police are looking for is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance and aged in his early twenties. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black hoodie and black track-pants.
