Eyre and Western Police in conjunction with Port Lincoln licensed premises have been working together to tackle the problem of alcohol related crimes in and around licensed premises in Port Lincoln and will trial a 1am lockout.
Extensive consultation has taken place between SAPOL, owners and managers of Port Lincoln licensed premises, the Australian Hotels Association and Consumer and Business Services. Consequently an agreement has been reached where effective Friday 21 December 2012 a 1am lockout will be introduced to all licensed premises that provide late night entertainment. This initiative will be in place for trial period of twelve months.
This initiative will greatly assist in reducing the number of persons gaining entry to licensed premises late at night and will assist staff in being able to better regulate behaviour and crowd numbers. It follows on from a similar model introduced in Whyalla, which has proven to be highly successful. By adopting a standard 1am lockout time across Port Lincoln, patrons will be unable to re-enter licensed premises once leaving and will be unable to move from venue to venue after 1am.
Eyre and Western Police, working in conjunction with licensed premises, aim to greatly reduce the incidents of alcohol related crimes in Port Lincoln by changing the drinking culture and attitudes of patrons who attend licensed venues late at night. This is a significant achievement for Port Lincoln and SAPOL seek the assistance and support of the community in making this initiative successful.
