Police are investigating the armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver that occurred overnight in Leichhardt.

Around 10.05pm, the 23-year-old driver has approached a residence on Eyre Street and was confronted by a male who was armed with a piece of wood with nails in it.

He made demands for cash, and the driver dropped the bag and a pizza in front of the man and went back to the delivery vehicle.

As the man approached the car, the male has struck him on the leg with the piece of wood, before the man has driven from the scene and reported the incident to police.

The driver suffered a minor puncture wound to his leg and was treated for his injuries,

Police investigations are continuing.
