A man has been charged in relation to the alleged armed robbery of a sports club at Coolangatta on December 2 last year.

Police will allege that around 4.15am, two men armed with firearms entered the Appel Street business and forced two male employees to lie on the ground.

The offenders took a sum of money before fleeing on foot.

On January 12, a search warrant was executed at an address in Carrara where police allegedly located cannabis plants and a hydroponics system.

A 35-year-old Carrara man was charged with one count each of armed robbery, produce dangerous drugs, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of a thing used in connection with the commission of a crime.

He remains in custody and will appear in the Southport Magistrates court tomorrow.

Investigations into the armed robbery are continuing.
