Detectives from the State Crime Operations Command’s Armed Robbery Unit have made a significant arrest as part of their efforts to clear up serious unsolved armed robbery cases.
A 48-year-old Morningside man has been charged following the 1989 armed payroll robbery of a concrete firm in Coopers Plains.
It is alleged on Friday September 22 two employees of the business were confronted and robbed by men wearing masks and armed with rifles. Following a pursuit through Tarragindi and Greenslopes, police intercepted and arrested two men who were both charged. A third man escaped.
Detective Superintendent John Sheppard of the Organised Crime Group said the arrest was a testament to the tenacity of the Armed Robbery Unit and their focus on solving historical armed robbery offences.
“One of the primary focuses of the unit is to look at those cases where violence is involved due to the ongoing risk posed to the community.
“In these types of cases we will review the evidence and look for additional lines of inquiry that may be generated by fresh information or forensic techniques now available to us.
“Make no mistake, these cases are never forgotten and when presented with a break in the case we will seize the opportunity to bring closure to those victims involved.”
The 48-year-old man is due to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.
