Two men are in custody following an armed robbery at a service station in Yagoona overnight.

Shortly after midnight, (Thursday 16 May, 2013), two men approached the service station employee who was outside the shop attending to the pumps.

The two men produced a handgun and threatened the employee. They took him inside where they stole cash and cigarettes.

The pair ran from the service station and police were alerted.

Officers from South West Metropolitan Highway Patrol, who were in the area at the time of the robbery,   saw two men near a vehicle that was parked nearby. They stopped and spoke to the men.

Following a number of inquiries, the pair was subsequently arrested.

They were taken to Bankstown Police Station where they are currently assisting with inquiries.

Initial inquiries revealed there was a third man involved in the robbery, and police are still searching the area with the assistance of PolAir, the Dog Squad, the Region Enforcement Squad and officers from the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad.

The service station employee was not hurt during the robbery.
