Two men have been charged following the alleged attempted armed robbery of a newsagent at Doonside earlier today.

Just before 1pm (Saturday 29 June 2013), police were called to a newsagency on Hill End Road, Doonside.

Officers were told two males had entered the business, allegedly armed with a gun, and threatened a male employee, demanding cash

They left empty-handed a short time later.

Four staff and a number of customers were present at the time, however no one was injured during the incident.

Following the incident, Traffic and Highway Patrol officers stopped a Toyota Tarago in Falmouth Road, Quakers Hill.

Police arrested three men and a woman and took them to Blacktown Police Station. A firearm was allegedly found in the van and seized for forensic examination.

Two men, aged 20 and 31, were charged with attempted armed robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon.

They were both refused bail and will appear before Blacktown Local Court tomorrow (Sunday 30 June 2013).

The other man and woman were released pending further inquiries.
