Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have arrested two more Columbian nationals as part of their ongoing investigations into a suspected robbery ring responsible for stealing jewellery worth millions of dollars.

Strike Force Warbrick was established in June 2012 to investigate a series of robberies targeting people employed in the wholesale jewellery industry.

That year, two people were arrested and charged following six robberies throughout Sydney during which jewellery valued at $2.5 million was allegedly stolen.

Detectives have been continuing their inquiries into two robberies at Rhodes on Sunday 19 May 2013 and at Beecroft on Friday 16 August 2013, during which robbery wholesalers were threatened with a firearm and knife and robbed of jewellery valued at more than $1 million.

On Saturday 17 August 2013, detectives arrested a 31-year-old man on Campbell Parade, Bondi, and executed a search warrant on a unit in the same street. The Columbian national was charged with goods in custody and also detained for being an unlawful citizen. He remains in custody to reappear at Waverley Local Court on Tuesday 1 October 2013.

Yesterday (Thursday 22 August 2013), detectives arrested a 25-year-old man at Shaw Street, Kogarah, and executed a search warrant on a property there.

A number of items were seized for further examination, including a gold crucifix which police will allege was stolen during the robbery at Rhodes.

The Columbian national was charged with robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon in relation to the incident at Rhodes, as well as an outstanding warrant for the offence of aggravated break, enter and steal. He was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Friday 23 August 2013).

Strike Force Warbrick investigations are continuing.
