Police investigating a number of armed robberies in Sydney have charged two men with a variety of offences.
Earlier this year, Strike Force Southleigh was formed by the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad to investigate a series of armed robberies which had taken place in Sydney and Wollongong throughout April and May 2013.
The investigation led to police arresting and charging four men with a variety of offences on Tuesday 23 July 2013.
Yesterday (Thursday 29 August 2013), detectives arrested two men – a 29-year-old and a 27-year-old – at a property in Silverwater.
The 27-year-old was charged with two counts of robbery whilst armed with a dangerous weapon, two counts of special aggravated break and enter and one count of robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon. He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in Central Local Court on Thursday 12 September 2013.
The 29-year-old was charged with recruit other person to commit offence and abet person to commit special aggravated break, enter and steal. He too was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in Penrith Local Court on Thursday 5 September 2013.
Strike Force Southleigh is investigating:
- The armed robbery of a community club in Heathcote on 14 April, 2013;
- The armed robbery of a golf club in Woolooware on 21 April, 2013;
- The armed home invasion of a property in Penrith on 6 May 2013; and,
- The attempted armed robbery of a bowling club in Woonona on 8 May 2013.
Investigations are continuing.
