Police are investigating the attempted armed robbery of two staff members of a Greenbank sports club last night.

Around 11.20pm a 51-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, both staff members of the sport and recreation club on Middle Road, were walking towards their cars when they were approached by two men.

One man was in possession of a knife and the other had what is believed to be a hand gun.

The staff members were able to lock themselves in their cars as the men attempted to gain entry. The men fled on foot after the staff members drove off.

No property was stolen and the victims were not physically injured.

Investigations are continuing.
