Police have foiled an armed robbery plot at Potts Point following investigations into another robbery at the same premises earlier this year.
Just before 8am on Sunday 14 July 2013, two men armed with knives and a hammer entered the hotel on Darlinghurst Road and detained an employee by binding his wrists. They escaped with a sum of cash.
Kings Cross detectives commenced Strike Force Willowbank to investigate the incident, with the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad taking carriage of the case when inquiries revealed an alleged plot to rob the same premises.
Just after 1pm yesterday (Monday 21 October 2013), officers from the Tactical Operations Unit arrested two brothers, aged 27 and 28, who were seated in a vehicle at Kellett Street, Kings Cross. Inside the car, police located balaclavas, two tomahawks and other items.
A 24-year-old man was arrested in a car at Double Bay a short time later, with his brother, aged 21, arrested last night at Liverpool.
Three of the men were taken to Kings Cross Police Station, with the fourth man taken to Liverpool Police Station, where Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives continued their inquiries.
The three men aged 28, 27 and 24, were each charged with robbery whilst armed with an offensive implement, and aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – deprive liberty, in relation to the July robbery. They were also charged with conspiracy to commit robbery while armed.
They were refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.

Search warrants were also conducted at home in Greenacre and Liverpool, with detectives seizing tens of thousands of dollars in cash, steroids, an extendable baton, a balaclava and other items.
