A man has been charged over the alleged attempted armed robbery of a bank at Laurieton, near Port Macquarie, yesterday.
About 12:20pm, Thursday 7 November 2013, a 55-year-old man allegedly entered the bank on Bold Street and threatened staff claiming to have a syringe.
The man allegedly demanded cash from the teller. The staff member walked away from the counter and the man left the bank empty-handed. No one was injured during the incident.
Police were contacted and attended the bank where a crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers.
Police canvassed the area and conducted a number of inquiries and about 2:30pm, they located the 55-year-old man nearby.
He was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station where he was charged with attempted robbery and demand money with menace. He was refused bail to appear in Port Macquarie Local Court today (Friday 8 November 2013).
