A man has been charged over the alleged attempted armed robbery of a betting shop at Regents Park on the weekend.

About 9:15pm on Saturday 23 November 2013, a man armed with a handgun entered the betting shop on Amy Street.

The man, who had his face concealed, approached the counter and allegedly threatened a male staff member with the firearm while making demands for cash.

A search warrant was conducted at the premises where police allegedly recovered a handgun as well as clothing, gloves, stolen number plates and an amount of cocaine.

On Sunday 24 November 2013, detectives from Flemington Local Area Command returned to the premises where they arrested a 28-year-old man.

He was taken to Auburn Police Station where he was charged with assault with intent to rob while armed with a dangerous weapon and refused bail to appear in Burwood Local Court today (Monday 25 November 2013).
