Police are searching for a man following the armed robbery of a service station at Mayfield last week (Friday 3 January 2014)

About 9.25pm a man armed entered the service station on Maitland Road.

The man allegedly threatened the 38-year-old attendant with a gun before demanding cash.

He then fled the scene.

Police from Newcastle Local area Command attended the scene and a crime scene was established and examined by specialist officers.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing and police are appealing for public assistance to identify and locate the man involved.

The man was wearing a light coloured bandana covering the lower half of his face and was last seen fleeing the scene towards Frith Street, Mayfield.
